Retain - 80th Anniversary of Mitsui Main Building Review - Bank of Japan Head Office's forecourt Create - Muromachi East District Development Project

Retain: The starting point for urban development lies with retaining the valuable things that have been carried on over the years. In other words, to achieve “harmonious coexistence” of historical architectural structures and traditional cultures.

80th Anniversary of Mitsui Main Building

The Mitsui Main Building (Chuo-ku, Tokyo), which opened in 1929, this year celebrated 80 years since construction of it was completed. On June 15, the day marking the Building's 80th anniversary, a commemorative ceremony and concert were held within the Building. We will remain committed to maintaining and preserving the Building as a symbolic presence of the Nihonbashi Revitalization Plan.

Nihonbashi Bridge Cleanup

Local town councils, employees of businesses in the area and others take part in a major cleanup of Nihonbashi Bridge every July under the auspices of the Meikyo “Nihonbashi” Hozonkai (famed Nihonbashi Bridge preservation society). With some 1,500 participants, the number of participants in 2008 was the record highest out of the 38 times that the cleanup has been held. From the Mitsui Fudosan Group, a total of 70 people, including employees and their families, also participated.

“OMOTENASHI” Experience

At Muromachi Fukutokujuku, a center for disseminating the culture of Nihonbashi operated by Mitsui Fudosan, we have been holding events for non-Japanese tourists, etc. to enjoy Japanese culture and traditions since February 2009. The events are aimed at having the enchantments of Japan be experienced through dancing and traditional Japanese performing arts performed by geisha, the tastes of a long-established and respected restaurant and other services.
