Muromachi East District Development Project

The Muromachi East District Development Project is a large multiple redevelopment to re-upgrade urban infrastructure and form a pedestrian network in the Nihonbashi area. Of this, construction commenced in Area 2-2, which is the area facing Mitsui Main Building and where Mitsui No. 3 Annex Building used to stand, in March 2009. In the Project, festivity will be produced and new attractions created in the town, while taking the historical landscape into account, such as by unifying the height of the cluster of low-rise buildings along Chuo-dori Street to about 31 meters. The Project is scheduled to be completed in 2014.

ECO EDO NIHONBASHI Green Project

ECO EDO NIHONBASHI was launched in August 2008 to create and disseminate new values from the area of Nihonbashi, which carries on the heart of Edo (former name of Tokyo) (please refer to the fiscal 2008 version). As part of such initiatives, which Mitsui Fudosan also supports, “Year-End Nihonbashi 2008 ~ ECO EDO NIHONBASHI Green Project ~” was held in December 2008. Focused on 'green' energy, an array of participatory events that boost environmental awareness were held.

ECO EDO NIHONBASHI Power Generation

“Power-generating floors,” which convert vibrations into electricity, were laid near three deodar cedar trees in the forecourt of the Bank of Japan. Some 2,000 participants generated electricity with their steps, lighting up the LED illuminations decorating the deodar cedar trees.

Nihonbashi Candle Night

Balloon lanterns and bamboo lanterns were placed at various venues around Nihonbashi, using warm light to create an entertaining sight for passersby.

Eco Action Point Draw

Along with presenting Eco Action Points to participants of events that use 'green' power, a draw for a chance to win 'green' products was held. Moreover, 10 yen for every point of the sum total of points earned by all participants was donated to Chuo-ku no Mori (Chuo-ku's Forest).
