The public and private sectors in Japan are coming together with the aim of reconstruction from the damage of the Great East Japan Earthquake, together facing what might be called a national crisis. The Mitsui Fudosan Group and its business have also been challenged anew with questions such as “what is true safety and security?” and “what kind of living is compatible with sustainable development?” We at the Group are in the midst of aiming to meet these challenges and contribute to the reconstruction of Japan.
The social mission of the Mitsui Fudosan Group is to realize the Group Statement, “Bringing Enrichment and Comfort to Urban Areas,” which it upholds. In order to promote this goal, three important CSR themes are raised; “Environmental Initiatives,” “Provision of High-Quality Products and Services” and “Challenges for Creating New Values and Markets.” The Group will continue to engage in these three CSR themes with all its ability while placing emphasis on improving and deepening values felt to be most important in the post-earthquake present such as “Safety and Security” and “Sustainability.”

For the theme of “Environmental Initiatives,” we are advancing a variety of approaches from a range of perspectives such as “Reduction of CO2 Emissions,” “Water Conservation,” “Reduction of Hazardous Materials,” “Resource Conservation and Waste Reduction” and “Preservation of Biodiversity” based on the “Mitsui Fudosan Group Environmental Policies.”
In March 2010 we established the environmental communication word, “
.” We hope to reaffirm that our urban development is “together with the Earth” and become a unified Group with our various stakeholders to develop new towns that will lead to a prosperous and joyous future.
The key to “Provision of High-Quality Products and Services” is “Safety and Security.” The “Disaster Damage Assessment System” which we began introducing to high-rise office buildings in fiscal 2009 has played a major role in initial responses to the Great East Japan Earthquake. While paying heed, in addition to such hard sides, to the soft sides such as community formation support at “Shibaura Island” revolving around disaster prevention, we are engaging in “Provision of High-Quality Products and Services” based on “Safety and Security.”
Particularly from the perspective of global environmental issues such as climate change, and in order to provide safe and secure products and services, we believe that “Energy Creation and Energy Storage” will be an important key, and we will strengthen responses in this field.

A new perspective on urban development is essential to realize “New Value Creation” alongside “Environment” and “Quality.” The Mitsui Fudosan Group is meeting challenges through various urban development initiatives with the concept of “Create While Retaining and Reviving,” such as the “Nihonbashi Revitalization Plan” which aims to combine history and innovation, as well as the “Kashiwanoha Campus City Project” which aims to be a next-generation green city.
Also, in a globalizing society and economy, we believe that deploying our experiences and know how of urban development, which has grown in Japan, to overseas on an expansive basis is another challenge to “Value Creation.” In particular, we are proactively engaging in initiatives in the booming economies of China and other east Asian countries, establishing local entities as well as participating in large-scale urban development projects.
In 2011, Mitsui Fudosan celebrated its 70th anniversary. In all these years, the company's stance of creating and providing the values sought after in each era has not changed. At present, the Mitsui Fudosan Group believes that the “Value Creation” to be aimed for is the “Promotion of Safe, Secure and Sustainable Urban Development through Hard and Soft Sides.”
We at the Mitsui Fudosan Group ask for your continued understanding, support and honest opinions concerning our various efforts related to social and environmental initiatives.
