Redevelopment of the former Defense Agency site in Roppongi: "Tokyo Midtown"

The consortium comprising the National Mutual Insurance Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives, Meiji Yasuda Life Insurance Company, Sekisui House, Ltd., Fukoku Mutual Life Insurance Company, Daido Life Insurance Company and Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd. will offer a new type of urban lifestyle unique to Tokyo Midtown in collaboration with The Ritz-Carlton, Oakwood, HIMEDIC and Johns Hopkins Medicine International. Services and Hospitality will be provided through rental housing and a medical center to be established in Tokyo Midtown, which will be the culmination of efforts currently underway to redevelop the former Defense Agency site in Roppongi.

As Japan’s economy enters its maturity it is making the transition from a manufacturing society to an information and service-based society. This project is based on the awareness that know-how and experience create vitality. Through thorough pursuit of collaborations with corporations and individuals with excellent reputations in their respective fields, the project aims to integrate the separate functions of offices, housing, commercial facilities, hotel, design-related facilities, etc. to achieve new value in urban development. The recently announced collaboration with each of these companies is designed to integrate the separate functions of "housing, hotel and offices" and "medical center, housing and offices."

The project will include a total of 517 residences, consisting of three types of rental apartments according to length of tenancy and purpose of use in order to meet the wants and needs of the ever more diversified and sophisticated lifestyles of urban residents.

  • The 244 unfurnished residences at Parkside Tower at The Ritz-Carlton, Tokyo will be Japan's first luxury apartments to be managed by a five-star hotel. Those living in the residences will be able to experience all of the service and amenities for which The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company is world-renowned.
  • OAKWOOD PREMIER TOKYO MIDTOWN, consisting of 107 residences, will be the highest luxury brand operated by Oakwood, the leading global operator of serviced apartments. Oakwood provides luxury hospitality service as well as designer furniture, household and kitchen equipment, maid services and concierge services, which enable international executives to enjoy a comfortable and elegant life.
  • Midtown East Residence will include 166 residences and be designed with those who integrate work into everyday lives and enjoy an urban lifestyle. This sophisticated, luxurious rental apartment will provide a relaxing atmosphere along with business support facilities and services.

Additionally, as for the Medical Center to be established in the Midtown Tower, Tokyo Midtown Medicine Co., Ltd. was established through venture of High Technology Medical Complex (HIMEDIC) Co., Ltd., a company with experience in operating leading membership-based medical institutions in Japan, and Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd. to provide operational support to the center. . Tokyo Midtown Medicine will introduce wide-ranging expertise in the planning and operation of the facility under institutional affiliation with Johns Hopkins Medicine International, achieved for the first time in Japan. This international and to be the nation’s largest build-in medical facility will provide advanced medical care to residents of the area, including foreign citizens, in addition to those living and working in Tokyo Midtown. Medical Corporation Soshinkai will open the clinic.

The consortium has already invited the Suntory Museum of Art and is committed to establish art and design related facilities such as 21/21 DESIGN SIGHT, a new base for design activities. It will continue to work jointly with the best partners in each field to gather solid experience and build communities with the capacity to transmit information and give birth to creativity through interpersonal interactions.
