"Nihombashi Mitsui Tower" Grand Opening
Also announcing Nihombashi’s latest redevelopment project,
the "East-Muromachi District Redevelopment Project"

November 24, 2005
Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd.

The grand opening ceremony of Nihombashi Mitsui Tower (39 stories high, 4 basement floors) was held on November 24. The Tower symbolizes the redevelopment work of Mitsui Main Building block (approx. 1.4 hectare) at 2-chome, Nihombashi-Muromachi, Chuo Ward, Tokyo.
At Mitsui Fudosan, we have been taking various actions from the past to revitalize the Nihombashi district. The Tower has succeeded in contribution of yet another new function to the district and Nihombashi continues to grow more appealing than ever.

Ever since the construction completion on July 29, 2005, the Tower welcomed new office tenants, opened restaurants and shops at the lower floors and inaugurated Mitsui Memorial Museum. In coming December 2, Mandarin Oriental Tokyo will launch their hotel business on the upper floors. All the features of the Tower are now in full-line.
Many visitors stop by at the "Mitsui Echigoya Station", the Nihombashi’s information center located on the opposite side of the street from the Tower. Along with the Nihombashi Mitsui Tower, Nihombashi is attracting more and more attention and new excitement.

Hereafter the core redevelopment plan in Nihombashi district will now be the "East-Muromachi District Redevelopment Project". Taking advantage of the reconstruction of our buildings, Mitsui Third Annex, Mitsui Sixth Building, and Mitsui Fifth Annex, we plan to facilitate the revitalization plan of East Nihombashi-Muromachi district in cooperation with the local authorities and the right holders in the region. In this redevelopment plan, we plan to align the height of the lower façdes to 31 meters* in order to improve and formulate good and unified townscape along the Chuo-Dori. Already, façdes of Nihombashi Mitsui Tower, Mitsui Main Building and Mitsukoshi Department Store (both main building and new building) are associated with one another. By the end of this project, there will be a 31 meter skyline over a distance of approximately 400 meters along Chuo-Dori.

To promote even more diversity and charm to Nihombashi, we are planning to: introduce "entertainment" feature to encourage longer stay; expand public space and shopping facilities to attract crowds; and establish "residential" features to invite people for settlement. We aim at making Nihombashi a diverse, unique area.

Mitsui Fudosan honors the tradition and the cultural heritage that Nihombashi has contributed to the history. We are sure to respect these Japanese value at the same time utilize these value upon revitalization of Nihombashi. The East-Muromachi District Redevelopment Project targets year 2012 completion.

Our efforts in liaison with the local community and the government will continue to create Nihombashi into an even better and even more attractive town.

*31 meter skyline:
Until 1963, building height was restricted to maximum 31 meters (equivalent to 100 shaku, a measuring unit of the old days in Japan). For further details, please refer to attachment #3.
