Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd. today announced that it has decided to initiate the second-stage development plan for Mitsui Outlet Park Sapporo Kita-Hiroshima, which is located in Kita-Hiroshima City, Hokkaido. The second-stage expansion will increase the number of shops from 130 stores to approximately 175 stores, giving the outlet park the most stores of any outlet mall in the Hokkaido/Tohoku region of Japan. Work will start in May 2013, with the second-stage opening scheduled for spring 2014.

Mitsui Outlet Park Sapporo Kita-Hiroshima opened its doors in April 2010. The facility has an ideal, easily accessible location along Hitsujigaoka Dori, a main public road, and is also close to National Highway Route 36 and the Central Hokkaido Expressway's Kita-Hiroshima Interchange (IC). Since its opening, Mitsui Outlet Park Sapporo Kita-Hiroshima has attracted many different types of customers from a wide catchment beyond just central Sapporo. What's more, because of its location between central Sapporo and New Chitose Airport, the outlet park is seeing an increasing number of tourists from Asia and other overseas countries and regions, in addition to many customers from within Japan. Facility sales in the year ended March 31, 2013, were strong, far exceeding \16.0 billion. The expansion announced today is aimed at garnering even more patronage from customers.

The first-stage development of this facility brought together stores offering everything from imported brands to local cuisine. The second-stage expansion will add popular brands from Japan and abroad, including sophisticated fashion specialty shops, children's stores, sporting and outdoor goods, fashion accessories and general merchandise, to cater to an even wider diversity of customer needs. Moreover, the second-stage expansion will be connected to the first-stage development by a bridge (two-story), making it easy to get around the whole building and adding vitality.

This facility is an indoor (enclosed) mall, the first Mitsui Outlet Park to employ this design, out of consideration for the climate of Hokkaido, in the far north of Japan. The first-stage development created a space that conveys the essence of Hokkaido's open land and the natural warmth of wooden materials based on the concept of “co-existence with Hokkaido's natural environment.” It thus provides an environment where visitors can spend time comfortably while appreciating the mall's amenities designed in harmony with nature. Also employing the indoor mall design, the second-stage expansion sets out to create a casual yet sophisticated space based on a country theme.

Mitsui Fudosan presently operates 12 Mitsui Outlet Park facilities across Japan. Furthermore, in its outlet park business overseas, Mitsui Fudosan opened Shanjing Outlet Plaza-Ningbo in China in September 2011. It has plans to open two more facilities overseas going forward: “Mitsui Outlet Park Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA)” (tentative name) in Malaysia in the winter of 2014, and to develop the Linkou Enterprise Zone Project in Taiwan in 2017. Looking ahead, Mitsui Fudosan will continue to actively develop new facilities, while enhancing the appeal of existing facilities.
