First opened as a port in 1859, Yokohama has since fostered its own distinctive culture. The people of Yokohama have a strong affinity with culture and the arts, and the city's rich and unique historical architecture, along with events like the Yokohama Triennale, continues to attract many visitors.
“The Life With Culture” was chosen for the design concept of Mitsui Shopping Park LaLaport YOKOHAMA to build a commercial facility properly tailored to this city. Accordingly, the facility contains a large collection of shops focused on hobbies and culture. These shops meet diverse cultural needs, and range from culture schools and an array of shops that support people involved with painting, models and other crafts, as well as shops focused on music, video, food and pets. One of Kanagawa Prefecture's largest retail facilities, incorporating the “TOHO Cinemas” cinema complex where film festivals are held, the facility also aims to become a new cultural center for the creative city of Yokohama.
