Together with Sophia University, we're building a better future.
Sophia Tower was completed in January 2017 in Yotsuya, Tokyo. The lower floors of this mixed-use building are occupied by Sophia University while the upper floors are leased office space, taking full advantage of the superb location. Mitsui Fudosan was appointed to serve as project advisor and has provided comprehensive support for the utilization of this asset from product planning and master leasing of the office floors to the operation and management of the building. As a result, profits from the office property provide the University with a revenue source that contributes to the betterment of the educational and research environment. This project also contributes to the development of the local community and raises the brand value and consequently the corporate value of this educational institution. Collaboration between Sophia University and the office tenant Aozora Bank has paved the way for joint research into senior citizen consumption trends, classroom lectures by bank directors, student internships and other initiatives that will open up new possibilities in the future.

Airport Operation Business
Airports Growing Together with Communities
Mitsui Fudosan Group entered the airport operation business in 2019 to ensure safe and secure travel through airports, since they are the key starting and end points for people’s journey through the skies. We have started our operations with Kumamoto Airport, and have expanded further to the seven airports in Hokkaido, as well as Hiroshima Airport.
While leveraging experience cultivated over many years of neighborhood creation, we will create airports that grow together with communities.
The Kumamoto Airport Operation
The renovation of the Kumamoto Airport passenger terminal building has started in January 2021.
The refurbished gate lounges provide fun and comfortable spaces for all customers to spend time. We aim to make the airport a venue where people visit, encounter others and gather, not just being mere waypoints during travel.

Working from home and adjusting lifestyles to prevent the spread of infectious diseases has greatly altered daily life, and has influenced the emergence of new values.
We have started a joint research project with universities to design future visions for cities which will lead to better neighborhood building.
Moreover, the progress of digital technologies have raised expectations towards university startups, their innovations, and the changes it will bring to the world.
Mitsui Fudosan Group aims to create new industries working together with university startups by providing a suitable work place and environment. Our efforts will hopefully enhance innovations, contributing to society and making cities a better place.
Mitsui Fudosan Group has entered an agreement on industry-academia co-creation, the first of its kind in the urban/neighborhood creation sector, establishing the “Mitsui Fudosan UTokyo Laboratory” to promote joint research with the University of Tokyo.
The “Mitsui Fudosan UTokyo Laboratory” will identify a symbolic vision of the future city of the post-digital revolution era in Tokyo, through practical research, leveraging the University of Tokyo’s knowledge and actual neighborhood that Mitsui Fudosan has helped develop. The lab will also pursue methodology on creating new urban values using various approaches, taking into account the society after COVID-19.
