New information center in Nihombashi District
"Mitsui Echigoya Station" Grand Opening on October 10
Also featuring Tokyo FM’s satellite studio

Mitsui Fudosan is proud to announce the opening of Mitsui Echigoya Station, the Nihombashi’s new information center. It is located in 2-chome, Nihombashi-Muromachi, Chuo-ward and will be opened for a limited time from October 10, 2005 to March 31, 2006.

Nihombashi is the historical location where Echigoya Gofukuten opened its store back in 1673. It is also where Mitsui Group originates. The exterior appearance of Mitsui Echigoya Station is the reproduction of Echigoya Gofukuten in the Edo era and will offer all the visitors to enjoy the old and cozy atmosphere of that particular era. Consisted of the following facilities and stores, Mitsui Echigoya Station will send out timely messages-conveying all sorts of attractiveness and charm of Nihombashi.

  • Nihombashi Echigoya Studio: Satellite studio for Tokyo FM radio station (limited opening from October 10 to December 31, 2005)
  • Nihombashi Information Counter: Concierge with full knowledge about Nihombashi will be at your service to provide town information and answer your questions.
  • Echigoya Café: A café with lineup of rice and soybeans-based food-conscious healthy menu
  • Kikakudo Collection: Excellent display and collection of treasures from Edo era.
  • Nihombashi Food Stand: Introduction and sales of goods, crafts, sweets and obentos (lunch boxes) offered by Nihombashi’s well-known old brands.
  • Nihombashi Entertainment Hall: Performance of lady-vaudeville and mini-lecture by Nihombashi’s brand shops. Will offer variety of culture programs fitting for Nihombashi

Mitsui Fudosan has taken various measures for regional revitalization of Nihombashi up till now. Mitsui Memorial Museum will open on October 8, followed by opening of Mandarin Oriental Tokyo on December 2. We are committed to continue to take actions that will add new features and attractions to develop an even better Nihombashi.

Nihombashi Echigoya Studio

This Studio is a limited-time satellite studio co-operated by Tokyo FM. It will broadcast programs during lunchtime hours that introduce all sorts of attractiveness in Nihombashi, as well as a live, open-to-public programs every Friday after 6 pm. At the event stage, live music, both domestic and foreign, will be played occasionally.

Concierge with full knowledge about Nihombashi will be at your service to provide town information and answer your questions.

Echigoya Café

This café has a lineup of rice and soybeans-based food-conscious healthy menu. Back in the Edo era, rice and soybeans were the most widely distributed crops at the five main trails ('Gokaido'), all which originates from Nihombashi. This is why we have chosen these as the main-feature ingredient of this café. Enjoy your stay for lunch or for dinner, while listening to the radio programs and stage performances at Nihombashi Echigoya Studio.

Kikakudo Collection

The famous Edo era goods collector, Mr. Hideo Hirano will offer display of his collection and treasures to the public. The display which will change once every two months in accordance with the respective theme. His treasured collection is not disclosed regularly and is worth to see. You can see the sophisticated, old-world technology and elegance of Edo craftsmen in the gallery.

Nihombashi Food Stand

This food stand introduces and sells various sorts of goods, crafts, sweets of Nihombashi. Enjoy seeing it with your own eyes and touch it like you would at any regular food stand. From weekdays, from Monday to Friday, Nihombashi’s brand restaurants will offer limited amount of obentos (lunch box). You may enjoy it in the café or enjoy it outside.

Nihombashi Entertainment Hall

Every week, Nihombashi Entertainment Hall will offer variety of culture programs fitting for Nihombashi, such as mini-lectures concerning Nihombashi town and its old brand shops. Additionally, once every 2 weeks, there will be a performance of lady-vaudeville. Many programs are being planned which will demonstrate the attractiveness of this town.
