Important Cultural Property of Japan “Nihonbashi” Bridge Celebrates 99th Anniversary on April 3
Opening of the 19th Annual Nihonbashi Bridge Spring Festival (April 4)

Meikyo Nihonbashi Hozonkai (The Famed Nihonbashi Bridge Preservation Society; Chairman: Taneo Nakamura) today announced that it will sponsor the 19th Annual Nihonbashi Bridge Spring Festival, to be held on Sunday, April 4, 2010. The purpose of the festival is two-fold-to revitalize the Nihonbashi area, and to encourage both an affinity for the area and a spirit of cooperation among local residents and businesses. Special events at the festival will include the sale of famous goods from some of Nihonbashi's oldest and most renowned shops, lectures on food education for children, which is currently a popular topic, and rickshaw rides with commemorative photographs.
Initially erected in 1604, the current Nihonbashi Bridge is the 20th, and has been designated as an important cultural property of Japan. The bridge will celebrate 99 years since first opening on April 3, 2010. This year, another event will be held at the same time to celebrate the bridge's 99th year -the Diners Club Presents Japan Classic Automobile Show. This classic car exhibition will feature extremely rare vehicles from across the world on display by Japanese car enthusiasts, including the beloved 1931 British-made Riley 9 Monaco owned by late Japanese actor and comedian Hisaya Morishige. The car exhibit will take place in front of three designated nationally important cultural properties-Nihonbashi, the Bank of Japan Headquarters, and the Mitsui Main Building. The "Japan Classic Automobile" Organizing Committee and Meikyo Nihonbashi Hozonkai are key sponsors of the event.
Other events in the vicinity of Nihonbashi will include a spring flower-viewing event scheduled for April 1 (Thursday) to April 4 (Sunday), 2010.
Meikyo Nihonbashi Hozonkai and Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd., as a corporate member of Meikyo Nihonbashi Hozonkai, are working with local public and private interests on the Nihonbashi Revitalization Project. This development program is designed to revitalize Nihonbashi and bring new appeal to the area based on the concept of, "Creating while restoring and bequeathing."
