Mitsui Fudosan Accelerates Development of Next-Generation Retail Properties
Development begins of three regional shopping centers and a large-scale entertainment complex

January 28, 2013
Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd.

Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Masanobu Komoda, President and Chief Executive Officer), has started the development of three regional shopping centers (Fujimi City, Saitama Prefecture, Tachikawa City, Tokyo, and Izumi City, Osaka) and a large entertainment complex (Suita City, Osaka). In these developments, in addition to demonstrating our accumulated know-how of retail properties development to the maximum, we are accurately responding to future changes in social trends and consumer needs, and continuing our development of facilities appropriate for the next generation.

These development projects have incorporated the following four pillars of our concept of “Next-Generation Retail Properties”, with the aim of making facilities that create and propose a new lifestyle for the next generation.

  • Make facilities embodying the concept of “Smart City” and responding to a globalized world from the viewpoint of safety and security, environmental coexistence, health and longevity, with the realization of the “creating, conserving and storing” of energy
  • Develop products for active seniors who, because of Japan's low birthrate and aging population, are the main customer base of the next generation
  • Grow together with the region, and continue being supported by customers of the local community in regional coexistence
  • Always remain fresh even as time passes, meeting the needs of customers and tenants with “maturing with age” products

The concrete development plans are as follows. (See details below.)

Mitsui Fudosan has been developing and operating retail properties for over 30 years, since the opening of Mitsui Shopping Park Lalaport TOKYO BAY (Funabashi City, Chiba Prefecture) in 1981, in response to changes in consumer needs and in the times.
These facilities include regional shopping centers, with Lalaport the first of the wide-area commercial models; “urban type commercial centers” providing a highly convenient business environment in city centers; “Mitsui Outlet Parks” that are genuine factory outlet malls; and “Life Style Parks” in suburban neighborhoods that are in close contact with their catchment area.
Mitsui Fudosan develops and operates retail properties comprising about 5,000 stores, covering about 2.6 million m2, in a total of 102 facilities and rentable retail spaces in Japan.
*Note: The number of facilities, rentable retail spaces and number of store tenants is as of October 1, 2012.

We at Mitsui Fudosan are committed to social and economic development as well as global environmental preservation under the principles of harmony, coexistence and inclusive cooperation represented by our “ ” corporate logo. Under the principles of the “ & ” logo, “ &EARTH ” represents our group vision.“ ” symbolizes our recognition that urban development is interlinked with the planet and our aim of a society that enriches both people and the planet.

*The ("& ") logo represents an inclusive approach toward harmonious coexistence that transcends conflicting ideals in the process of creating new value. This contrasts with the notion of "or," in which society must often choose between perceived opposing perspectives, such as "civilization or nature," "economy or culture," "work or study." The logo was adopted in April 1991.
