Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd. and Mitsui Fudosan Retail Management Co., Ltd. have announced the opening on July 11, 2013 (Thurs.) of Mitsui Outlet Park Shiga Ryuo, following renovation and expansion. The two companies have been pursuing second-stage expansion plans for this outlet mall. The opening of the mall’s second stage will increase the number of stores from 167 to 237 stores, including 70 new and popular stores, with 4 stores opening in Japan for the first time. As one of the Kinki region’s largest outlet malls in terms of the number of stores, Mitsui Outlet Park Shiga Ryuo will evolve into an outlet mall featuring a comprehensive lineup of stores and merchandise targeting all customer segments.

  • 70 new stores will be opened, including 4 outlets opening in Japan for the first time in Japan and 14 stores making their debut in the Kinki region.
  • A liberating atmosphere has been created based on the architectural design concept of “Flowers.”
  • Taking the facility concept of “An Outlet Mall in Harmony with the Environment” to the next level, a new 100 kW solar photovoltaic power generation facility will be installed, complementing the existing environmental facilities of the mall’s first stage.

[Details of the Mall’s Newly Opening Second Stage]

  • 70 new stores will be opened, including 4 factory outlets opening in Japan for the first time and 14 stores making their debut in the Kinki region.
    • Mitsui Outlet Park Shiga Ryuo will evolve into an outlet mall featuring a comprehensive lineup of stores and merchandise, with the aim of becoming an attractive facility that delivers even higher customer satisfaction. Until now, the mall has offered an expansive lineup of merchandise ranging from leading fashion brands to household goods from Japan and abroad. In addition, the outlet mall will provide sports goods, a foods market, and kitchen goods as well as trendy fashion brands carried by multi-brand shops and other stores.
  • A liberating atmosphere has been created based on the architectural design concept of “Flowers”
    • The design concept of the mall’s newly opening second stage is “Flowers.” The mall’s first stage is based on the design concept of “Leaves.” To create a seamless transition between the two stages, the mall’s second stage has adopted a design motif based on earth colors accentuated by vivid colors that evoke the wild flowers that grow in the lush natural environment surrounding the town of Ryuo.
      * The design concept for the mall’s first-stage is “Leaves.” The design motif features earth colors that suggest a forest atmosphere framed by leaves and branches.
    • The mall’s newly opening second stage is a three-floor structure. The shopping floor is on the third floor, while parking lots are located on the first two floors.
  • Taking the facility concept of “An Outlet Mall in Harmony with the Environment” to the next level, a new 100 kW solar photovoltaic power generation facility will be installed, complementing the existing environmental facilities of the mall’s first stage.
    • A 100 kW solar photovoltaic power generation facility will be installed in the mall’s second stage. Besides adopting LED lighting fixtures for all lighting in public areas throughout the facility, in principle, the facility will actively encourage the use of LED lighting fixtures in tenanted store spaces as well.

[Details of the Mall’s Renovated First Stage]

  • A total of 15 stores will progressively open from late June, comprising 14 new stores, including 5 factory outlets opening in Japan for the first time and 2 making their debut in the Kinki region, and 1 factory outlet reopening following store expansion.
    • The mall’s first stage will also host factory outlets opening stores in Japan for the first time, such as American Eagle Outfitters.
  • A new disaster-readiness storeroom will be built, along with installing furniture that can also be used in a disaster at Berry Garden, in order to ensure the safety and peace of mind of customers and local residents.
    • A new storeroom will be built to stockpile provisions such as food and water, as well as portable toilets, in case of an emergency.
    • Berry Garden is a community space featuring a lawn-covered plaza, a fountain and play equipment for children, among other amenities. Here, the facility has installed furniture that can be used as benches and stools in ordinary times, while doubling as rice cooking pots and other equipment during disasters. In this way, the facility gives ample consideration to the safety and peace of mind of shoppers and local residents.
    • In addition to the disaster-readiness storeroom and furniture that can also be used in a disaster, the facility will provide additional play equipment for children in Berry Garden.
