Planned Summer 2015 Opening Also Revamps First- and Second-Stage Facilities

Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd. is pleased to announce that it has decided to initiate the third-stage development plan for Mitsui Outlet Park Makuhari, which is located in Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture. The third-stage expansion will increase the number of shops by 30 stores to approximately 125 stores. Construction will start in September 2014, with the opening scheduled for summer 2015.

The Mitsui Outlet Park Makuhari first-stage opened its doors in October 2000 and second-stage in April 2005. The full-scale outlet mall is located in front of Kaihin Makuhari Station on the JR Keiyo Line. Since its opening, the park has attracted many different types of customers from a wide catchment beyond just Chiba Prefecture. What’s more, the outlet mall is only 40 to 50 minutes from the Narita and Haneda international airports by expressway bus, ensuring it is seeing an increasing number of tourists from Asia and other overseas countries and regions, in addition to many customers from within Japan. This expansion is aimed at garnering even more patronage from customers from both within and outside of Japan.

In conjunction with the expansion will be partial renovations of some first-stage and second-stage buildings and a major replacement and renewal of stores that will also be completed with the third-stage development for a renewed opening in the summer of 2015. This mall, which has grown together with the new urban sub-center of Makuhari, will evolve into an even more attractive facility with added vitality.

Regarding stores, refurbishing of the first- and second-stage facilities and the third-stage expansion will add popular brands from Japan and abroad, including sophisticated fashion specialty shops, children’s stores, sporting and outdoor goods, fashion accessories and general merchandise, to cater to an even wider diversity of customer needs. The three-story, third-stage expansion will include total floor space of approx. 9,800 m2 of which approx. 6,400 m2 will be occupied by stores, and will be connected to the first-stage facility by a bridge (2nd floor), making it easy to get around the whole facility.

Mitsui Fudosan presently operates 12 Mitsui Outlet Park facilities across Japan and is developing Mitsui Outlet Park Hokuriku Oyabe (tentative name), which will be the 13th facility when it opens in summer 2015. Furthermore, in its outlet park business overseas, Mitsui Fudosan opened Shanjing Outlet Plaza-Ningbo in China in September 2011. It has plans to open two more facilities overseas going forward: Mitsui Outlet Park Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) (tentative name) in Malaysia in early 2015, and to develop the Linkou Enterprise Zone Project in Taiwan (scheduled to open in the latter half of 2015). Looking ahead, Mitsui Fudosan will continue to actively develop new facilities, while enhancing the appeal of existing facilities.
