Mitsui Fudosan Obtains ISO 14001 Certification
for Shin-Kawasaki Mitsui Building

December 14, 2001
Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd.

Mitsui Fudosan has acquired ISO 14001 certification, an international standard for environmental management systems, for its Shin-Kawasaki Mitsui Building. Official approval was granted by Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance on November 15, 2001 (approval number 772958).

This marks the first time that Mitsui Fudosan (the parent company) has independently earned certification for its environmental management systems. It reflects the success of the Company' efforts in three areas: waste reduction, energy saving, and "green" procurement. We also carry out regular and thorough maintenance and checks of heat-producing equipment. In these ways, we seek to avoid accidents and disasters while preventing generation of large volumes of waste and excessive energy consumption.

The environmental system that earned certification was built up in a joint effort with other Mitsui Fudosan Group companies, including M·F·BUILDING MANAGEMENT CO., LTD. and Daiichi Seibi Co., Ltd. The Group is committed to tackling future environmental initiatives by combining accumulated knowledge and manifesting the specific strengths of each member.

For a long time, the Mitsui Fudosan Group has positioned environmental protection as a key management priority, stipulating "coexistence with the environment" as a core objective under its medium-term management plan. In November 2001, the Company formulated the Mitsui Fudosan Group Environmental Policies to demonstrate its proactive stance on the environment. The Company already implemented "eco standards" throughout its condominium business. It has also instituted separated garbage collection and office paper recycling systems. In addition, we have also developed office paper that is 100% recycled.

The Mitsui Fudosan Group is tacking environmental issues on a number of fronts. In August 2001, for example, Group member Daiichi Seibi obtained ISO 14001 certification. The parent company's recent certification is another step in a series of Group initiatives.

Going forward, we will continue rigorously implementing our environmental system in the Shin-Kawasaki Mitsui Building, while improving our business to raise customer service levels. At the same time, we will pursue a Groupwide effort to prevent environmental pollution from office buildings and lighten the impact of our activities on the environment. We will also use our success in the Shin-Kawasaki Mitsui Building to develop environmental management systems for existing buildings in a swift and effective manner.

We will use ISO 14001 certification as an opportunity to help prevent environmental pollution and alleviate the environmental impact of our business. However, we will also go much further. Both M.F. Building Management and Daiichi Seibi have also acquired ISO 9002 certification for their quality management systems. Based on this track record, we will strive to employ ISO-recognized techniques to provide our customers with higher-quality services.

The Mitsui Fudosan Group's vision of harmonious coexistence its embodied in its "&" slogan. Backed by this slogan, we will seek to combine environmental protection and urban development in a harmonious manner, in line with our commitment to creating comfortable and seamless urban environments. In the future, we will continue promoting coexistence with the environment.
