Tokyo, Japan, February 1, 2022 – Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd., a leading global real estate company headquartered in Tokyo, hereby announces that it concluded a basic agreement together with Rugby School International Limited (a UK corporate entity; “RSIL”), the Rugby School Japan Establishment Foundation (“the Foundation”), Chiba University, and Clarence Education Asia Limited on January 31, 2022. The agreement focuses on establishment and operation of Rugby School Japan (tentative name) with the goal of collaborating and cooperating on opening an international rugby school within Chiba University’s Kashiwa-no-ha Campus.

1.About the UK’s Rugby School

Founded in 1567, Rugby School is a prestigious school that makes up one of the nine “Clarendon schools,” the UK’s historic public schools. It is known as the birthplace of rugby, a type of ball game. Rugby School Thailand was opened in 2017, making Rugby School Japan the second overseas location.

2. Details of the Basic Agreement

The parties involved in this agreement have committed to collaborating and cooperating with the goal of opening Rugby School Japan (tentative name) within the grounds of Chiba University’s Kashiwa-no-ha Campus in 2023.

The Foundation has obtained a license for opening Rugby School Japan from RSIL, and will use the conclusion of this agreement as an opportunity to begin external discussions to establish the school.

The Kashiwa-no-ha International Campus Town Initiative, which was formulated in March 2008, established concrete goals and policies mainly to promote the utilization of academic research resources and internationalization in Kashiwa-no-ha Smart City. While Mitsui Fudosan plans to establish facilities such as Rugby School Japan’s school building, its efforts will also extend to the opening of the school, including discussions and arrangements between relevant parties, and realizing the creation of an international academic, educational, and cultural space.
