Further, the Consortium signed the Basic Agreement today, April 22, 2019, with Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.

This business will prioritize safe and reliable airport operations while aiming to contribute to the region’s continued recovery from the 2016 Kumamoto earthquakes. The consortium hopes that by utilizing the Kumamoto Airport’s geographical advantages—that is, its proximity to the rest of East Asia—and the prefecture’s abundant tourist draws, such as the Aso and Amakusa areas, they can increase traffic through Kumamoto, reinvigorating both the airport and surrounding environs.

The MSJA-Kumamoto Consortium will begin preparations to establish an SPC for the project and conclude a Project Agreement based on the Basic Agreement, in advance of the project’s scheduled start on April 1st next year.
