Under the philosophy symbolized by the “&” logo, which is geared toward generating new value through cooperation, coexistence, and co-creation, the Mitsui Fudosan Group is committed to solving the challenges faced by society through neighborhood creation. In order to express the vision to which we aspire by coexisting with the environment as part of neighborhood creation, we formulated “& EARTH for Nature” as our declaration of coexistence with the environment in neighborhood creation in April 2025. Recognizing nature, people, and community as a “Holistic Environment,” we seek to create prosperous “Holistic Environments” in which the allure of nature, people, and communities circulate to grow even more vibrant over time. As we see it, this is one of the core missions required of neighborhood creation. We will therefore continue to expand this network of sustainable, prosperous “Holistic Environments” and advance an approach to neighborhood creation that passes these environments on to future generations as our contribution to society. One initiative that symbolizes this effort is NEMU RESORT, located in Ise-Shima National Park. Along with opening a new villa made in part from Mie-sourced lumber, we also renovated the satoyama-style aquatic garden. As part of this renovation, we employed an initiative in a bid to harness the allure of water through the use of systems that purify used water from the site and circulate it back to the aquatic garden. Amid the rich natural environment of Ise-Shima, we also provide opportunities to interact with wildlife and learn about the environment, thereby practicing the philosophy of “& EARTH for Nature” in a way that allows people to immerse themselves in nature while passing on that value to future generations.
In the Nihonbashi area, we are working to generate new value through neighborhood creation. As Japan’s tallest and largest wooden rental office building, under the concept of growing a forest in Nihonbashi, Nihonbashi Honcho Mitsui Building &forest (scheduled for completion in 2027) aims to realize offices to which workers will want to commute when they experience the peace and warmth characteristic of trees. Planted and grown in the forests the Mitsui Fudosan Group owns in Hokkaido, these trees will form a space of lush greenery in the heart of Nihonbashi and be reborn as a wooden rental office building. Along with our commitment to the creation of “never-ending forests” that link cities and nature, we will promote the use of lumber through a transition to wood construction and wooden materials, and drive neighborhood creation that circulates natural resources and passes these on to the future.
The Group also recognizes that addressing climate change is an important responsibility. For all new developments, we calculate CO2 emissions during construction and examine measures to reduce them, while at existing properties we promote energy conservation and the use of renewable energy. We are also actively increasing the use of domestically sourced timber through timber construction and greater use of wood, and will steadily advance initiatives toward a decarbonized society in collaboration with the supply chain. These decarbonization initiatives are inseparable from coexistence with the environment; we will pursue both as mutually reinforcing elements of sustainable neighborhood creation.
Respect for human rights is essential to realizing a sustainable society. Across all business activities, including the supply chain, we work to identify and address human rights risks through ongoing human rights due diligence, while advancing responsible business operations through continued dialogue and collaboration with business partners and contractors. Together with people who hold diverse values, we will seek to create social value as we address social issues, and we will continue taking on the challenge of creating new value for the future.
